Objectives and services provided - Tissue engineering platform

The TISSUE ENGINEERING AND OPTO-MECHANICAL FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS PLATFORM will be established at the Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine (DMSC), with its main facilities located within the Physiological Sciences and Health Services Research (BSL3) sections. The platform aims to provide synthetic and biological substrates for cell growth in combination with high spatiotemporal resolution techniques for detecting physiological properties (mechanical, metabolic, and electrical).

In its current state, the platform has been developed over approximately ten years of activity and is the result of synergistic collaboration between the DMSC, other Departments of the University of Florence (Department of Chemistry, NeuRoFarBa, and Engineering), national research centers (INO-CNR, LENS), and international institutions (University of Washington). These facilities and expertise will be available to members of the DMSC as well as to researchers from other Departments of the University of Florence, other universities, and national and international research centers—both public and private—who require them for their research, primarily in the biomedical and bioengineering fields.
