Objectives and services provided - Imaging

The Imaging Platform was established at the Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine (DMSC) of the University of Florence. Its purpose is to make the wealth of knowledge, technical expertise, and instrumentation in the field of conventional and precision optical and electron microscopy—acquired by the teaching and technical staff of the Human Anatomy and Histology Section over decades of research activity—available to researchers from the Departments of the University of Florence, as well as other national and international universities and research centers who require it for their biomedical studies.

TECHNICAL-SCIENTIFIC CONSULTING ACTIVITIES

The personnel of the IMAGING PLATFORM, according to their respective roles and expertise, are available for technical and scientific consultations and collaborations with interested researchers in all fields of microscopic morphology and related methodologies, with particular regard to:

• Optical microscopy
• Histochemistry
• Immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry
• Digitization and morphometry of microscopic specimens
• Confocal laser scanning microscopy
• Transmission electron microscopy
• Immuno-electron microscopy

In particular, the IMAGING PLATFORM aims to offer hospitality and support to external researchers for:

• Guidance on sample preparation for morphological analysis;
• Training on the use of equipment and routine morphological techniques;
• The execution of more complex morphological techniques on their behalf;
• The maintenance of morphological instruments in their own laboratories;
• Potential full-fledged scientific collaborations.
