Professor Alessandro Bartoloni Speaker at the Prestigious National Event

The Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine is pleased to share the participation of Professor Alessandro Bartoloni as a speaker at the prestigious national event "Animal and Human Leishmaniasis, an Example of ONE HEALTH – 2nd National Meeting of the IIZZSS Leishmania Laboratories," scheduled to take place at the Ministry of Health in Rome.

During the meeting, Prof. Bartoloni will present the results of the Tuscan multicenter study TOSMANIA, a project that involved all Infectious Diseases Units, the Microbiology and Parasitology laboratories in Tuscany, and the Pathology Unit of AOU Careggi.

The study has outlined the current epidemiological picture of human leishmaniasis in our region, highlighting an increase in cases over recent years—a trend that aligns with observations in other areas of the country. This highly significant scientific contribution was published in the journal Microorganisms in 2024, with Dr. Anna Barbiero as first author, and was coordinated by Professor Lorenzo Zammarchi.

This major achievement confirms the value of interdisciplinary research and collaboration between healthcare and academic institutions, fully in line with the One Health paradigm, which is increasingly central to addressing emerging global health challenges today.

Congratulations to all the professionals and researchers involved for this significant scientific milestone.
